So your team's off to a slow start and you're ready to write the season off? Here's something to think about. In 13 of the past 16 seasons, at least one club has started 1-3 and/or 1-4 and qualified for the playoffs. The 2001 Super Bowl XXXVI champion New England Patriots did it. Last year, the NFC North champion Chicago Bears did it.... with a rookie quarterback.
About Poll
Which of these teams is most likely to turn their 2006 season around and make the playoffs?
Browns
Buccaneers
Cardinals
Dolphins
Lions
Packers
Raiders
Steelers
Texans
Titans
Current ResultsAlso worth noting... since the playoff field was expanded to 12 teams in 1990, 19 clubs have begun their season 1-3 and still managed to advance to the playoffs. Five 1-4 teams have done the same in that time frame. Which should lead one to believe at least one of this year's slow starters will turn it around. Right?
Taking a look at all the teams with at least three losses and no more than one win, we can quickly narrow the list. Right off the bat you can eliminate the hapless Raiders, Lions, and Titans. Barring a miracle, those teams are looking at top-five draft picks next April. You can probably include the Browns in that group as well.
That leaves the Texans, Steelers, and Dolphins in the AFC, along with the Cardinals, Buccaneers, and Packers in the NFC.
