--The big debate among Canyon followers will be who will win the starting quarterback job - returning senior Austin Civita or promising junior Ben Longshore, who is the brother of Canyon's career leading passer, Nate Longshore (now at Cal).
--Despite the presence of two of the nation's top quarterbacks in Herrick and Lyon, 2005 will be remembered as the Year of the Running Back thanks to Valencia's Shane Vereen, Hart's Delano Howell, Canyon's J.J. DiLuigi and Burroughs' Thomas Kyle, all of whom will rush for more than 1,000 yards this season.
--Vereen will be the first player in Foothill League history to have 150 rushing yards and 150 receiving yards in the same game.

Early Season Betting StrategiesThe first few weeks of the college football season are always full of unknowns. There are new head coaches, new coordinators, and most importantly hundreds of new players on teams who are filling key roles for the first time. No one yet knows which teams will be the big surprises or big disappointments; the only thing certain is that there will be several. It is this time of the season, namely the first three weeks, that the oddsmakers have the toughest time putting out accurate line predictions. It may not be easy for handicappers to identify which lines are off, but just being aware that there will be more mistakes now than at any other point in the season can give you an advantage.
Firstly, if you like a 10 point or fewer underdog in a game consider playing a portion of your wager on the money line. Split your wager in half for smaller spreads while putting 10-20% of your wager on the money line for the bigger spreads. This strategy is something to consider in all college underdog wagers, but even more so early on in the season.
Secondly, and this is probably my most effective early season strategy, focus some attention to second half betting. Try to identify key unknowns and question marks before the game, such as the ability of a new quarterback or which team will control the line of scrimmage. Often times these question marks can be answered in the first half and enable you to make a smart second half wager on a second half pointspread that is formulated in part by an original line that was set when the key question marks were still a mystery. It may take some time to get used to second half betting, but it can be very rewarding, particularly early on in the season.

--The most anticipated event of the regular season will be the Hart-Valencia game Oct. 28 at Valencia. This year, the contest will come down to the final play for only the second time in series history.
--No matter the weather conditions, not a hair will fall out of place on the head of Hart's well-coiffed offensive coordinator, Davis Delmatoff.
