nfl expert picks

Michael Vick is perhaps one of the most impressive physical specimens that the editors of NFL Expert Picks have ever grace a football field, but that being said he should not be standing in the pocket (or running out of the pocket in Vick's case) for Atlanta next season, until this matter is settled. And that is a football opinion, not an emotional response to what amounts to some rather disturbing charges against the Falcon's Quarterback.
NFL Expert Picks is not interested in debating what kind of human being Michael Vick may or may not be, that is going to be the job of a jury of his peers. Federal prosecutors will be the ones lobbying for his punishment in a court of law, not the court of public opinion. So why then would a team of football handicappers be so quick to remove one of the leagues premiere Quarterbacks? Would it not make more sense for him to be on a field, making the Falcon's stronger? The problem is, his off field woes are going to affect his on field performance, there is little question of that. Michael Vick is not going to be able to command his offense at the same level, without the level of distraction.
Now, I am not so sure that it is the NFL's business to suspend the man for a year without there being at least a trial (although, the case was strong to suspend Pacman). But if I am the Falcon's, do I want Michael Vick on the field at the beginning of the 2007 - 08 season? Simply put.. NO...
Suspend him.. give him a leave of absence... vacation... it really does not matter... nothing good can come from having this man in the locker room, or worse yet, on the field while he is facing Federal charges. Let's face it, we all know the stats... The Federal government very rarely loses in court, their conviction rate is impressive. Vick has to know that he is looking down the barrel of a loaded gun, and I doubt that is going to help him on the field. Not to mention the number of team mates and fans who simply have lost all respect for the man.
I am not suggestion that Vick is guilty, like stated before, that is the job for a jury to decide. But the Falcon's are going to be a better team with Vick off the field. On a personal note, I will say this much, should there be the slightest validity to these charges in any way shape or form, then I hope we never see that man on a football field again. It is hard to ignore the heinous nature of these charges, and keep in mind that the corner stone of our judicial system is innocent until proven guilty, but that is something that everyone needs to keep in mind. And on one final note, one thing that I have been hearing that makes me sick relating to the entire dog fighting industry, is that this is a cultural issue. This is not a cultural thing... it is a stupid thing... it is a cruel thing... it is a disgusting thing... there is no excuse for this type of behavior, nor is there any room for keeping an open mind about animal cruelty. It does no justice to real cultural issues to lump this disgusting display of greed and cruelty into the mix.
Recently, I was scanning the headlines for NFL off-season news, hoping to start pulling information as teams head to training camp. But the problem is that none of the NFL news had anything to do with football, rather it was a collection of headlines about players legal problems, domestic disputes, steroid investigations and other scandals. How does this have anything to do with football? But the truth of the matter is that in the new NFL, on any given Sunday the overall character of a team is perhaps more important than home field advantage.
Lets face it, how can anyone talk about the Cincinnati Bengals without factoring in their teams history of legal problems. There is little doubt that NFL Expert Picks places as much weight on the Bengals stud in the QB position, Carson Palmer, as we do with the teams overall character makeup. Many teams are going to be playing at a sub-par level in the 2007-2008 NFL season due to factors off the playing field, not the least of which is the Tennessee Titans, who will be without their star cornerback, Adam 'Pacman' Jones, who has been suspended for the 2007 NFL season due to a series of infractions. Pacman, who was drafted in 2005, has been arrested a total of six times since being drafted and is currently awaiting felony charges. It remains to be seen in the Titans are better without Jones in the locker room, as a cancer like Pacman can wreak havoc on a young club. There is no denying Jones is an exceptional talent, but at what cost does that talent come? There is no shortage of talents that came at the expense of character, and their teams paid a heavy price in the end. Ask the Philadelphia Eagles if the upside to Terrell Owens was worth all the baggage that skill came with? I doubt it...
Bottom line, this off-season, NFL Expert Picks will continue to read through NFL news, football scouting reports in addition to arrest records or court proceedings of the NFL Players. Character is becoming increasingly important around the league as it is a very rare commodity in the NFL these days. And character is becoming an increasing more significant factor when picking a winner.
Interesting article that just appeared on CBS Sportsline.com, which rates the top 5 Running Backs in the game. NFL Expert Picks is a big believer that if you are not a threat on the run, then your offense will suffer, no mater how strong the QB's arm is, or what rocket fuel the receivers happen to be drinking.
While it is a "no brainer" to pick #1 Overall, you would have to be seriously lacking in the intellect department if you could not recognize the fact that LaDainian Tomlinson is by far the class of the league on the ground, the picks 2 - 5 are less predictable. In second is Larry Johnson, Kansas City, third is Frank Gore, San Francisco, Fourth is Steven Jackson from St. Louis and finally, Jacksonville's Fred Taylor. Honorable mention to the Eagle's Brian Westbrook.
