Sometimes, though, studying trends will lend you to not only a terrific against the spread wager but an actual money bet. The trends say that this weekend in the game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers are home in this one, where most folks might think they play very tough, but that is not the case.

That sea of orange that the visiting teams get covered with when walking onto the Volunteers’ home-field used to spell doom. That’s not the case in the past few years, though.
Trend – The Volunteers are 11 – 28 against the spread in their last 39 home games.
This is not the type of trend that any home team wants. What this means is that what used to be a very tough place to play has, over the years, become easier for fellow SEC teams. That’s not a good thing. Any advantage that the Volunteers use to have by playing at home has slowly started to vanish.
Trend – The Gamecocks are 9 – 1 against the spread in their last 10 road games.
Okay, so this is a classic example of putting together two trends in order to make a wager. The Volunteers have slowly gotten bad at home and the Gamecocks have become a great road team.
Now, it’s obvious where the wager is here. The trends say without a doubt that the Gamecocks are a terrific wager to beat the spread. Not only have that, but the Gamecocks look like a pretty good money-line bet as well.
South Carolina is coming off of a bad loss to Vanderbilt. Their head coach, Steve Spurrier, cannot feel good about that. He will have his team ready.
Tennessee, meanwhile, looked great beating the heck out of Alabama in their last. The Volunteers will have a let down in this game.
More importantly, the trends say that South Carolina beats this spread.
