Leading online sports wagering firm BETonSPORTS plc become the first sports betting site on the Internet to offer lines and totals on virtually every NCAA and NFL football game for week one.
BETonSPORTS odds makers wanted to send a clear message to customers and competitors alike, that they are the leader when it comes to sports wagering sites.
"Certainly there is more of a risk to hang our numbers first, but that's the business we are in,” said Leo Shafto, wagering consultant for BETonSPORTS plc. “There's a bit of ego involved I must admit. Being a leader rather than a follower, you are certain to assume more liability, but we feel comfortable with our odds and our players are definitely willing to demonstrate where we may have erred as evidenced by their plays.”
Will Griffiths, Director of Marketing for BETonSPORTS.com said the ability to post the lines, along with weekly totals for the first week of the season is a testament to the skills that the odds makers have at BETOnSPORTS.com
Shafto said that in order for the lines to be posted his odds makers had to mull over loads and loads of media reports, research and other information to at least get a competitive starting point for the lines.
Posting the early week one lines is the perfect remedy for wagering customers who have been bogged down in the dog days of summer and were getting anxious to bet on something other than baseball, according to Shafto.
Among the highlights of the week one odds for NFL games is longtime AFC favorite New England Patriots being favored by 7.5-points over their division rival the Buffalo Bills. On the college side, the defending national champion Texas Longhorns are a 40-point favorite over in-state foe North Texas.
One of the most closely watched lines is the much anticipated first-ever match up of the Manning brothers Payton and Elli as the Indianapolis Colts take on the New York Giants. The Colts, and big brother Payton, are currently favored by 3 ½ points.
One of the premier college football games for week one, will actually be played in prime-time on Monday night as heated rivals Miami and Florida St. square off in a Orange State showdown. Currently BETonSPORTS has the Huricanes favored by 3 ½ points.
