WinThe first dog to cross the finish line wins. You only collect if your dog finishes first.
PlaceThe second dog to cross the finish line places. You collect only if your dog comes first or second.
ShowThe third greyhound to cross the finish line shows. You collect only if your dog comes first, second or third.
Exacta, Forecast or PerfectaThe first two dogs to cross the finish line in EXACT order.
Pick 3Select the winner of three consecutive races. In the Pick 3, you pick the greyhounds that finish first, in 3 designated races. Betting must be completed prior to the close of the window for the race of the first leg of the Pick 3 wager. When placing this wager, tell the teller or select the box on the web form indicating you wish to play a Pick 3, then give the numbers of the greyhounds you choose to place first in each of the races.
Quinella or Reverse ForecastThe first two dogs to cross the finish line in any order. In the Quinella, you select two greyhounds to finish first and second. You collect the if your selections finish first and second, regardless which order they finish. For example, if you played a Quinella on dogs 1 and 6, you win if the greyhounds finish 1 then 6 or 6 then 1.
Double QuinellaThe winning Quinella combinations in two consecutive races. This is a Quinella but for two races, so you must have the correct top two dogs in both races. It doesn't matter what order they finish in the races, as long as they are the top two placed dogs.
Daily DoubleWinners of the 1st and 2nd races. Select the winning dogs in the first two races of the day, to collect on the daily double.
Trifecta or TrioThe dogs finishing first, second and third place in EXACT ORDER. In the trifecta, you select three greyhounds to finish first, second and third. You collect on the trifecta if your selections finish first, second and third in the exact order you specified on your betting slip.
SuperfectaThe first four dogs in their EXACT ORDER of finish. The Superfecta is correctly choosing the first four dogs finishing in exact order. In order to win this bet, the bettor must correctly predict the first four greyhounds as they cross the finish line.

Betting Stake
The "betting stake" is the amount of money being bet on the horse race.
Types of Bet
To WinThe person betting on the horse race is placing a bet on the horse to win the race. The bet is lost if the horse does not come first in the race.
Each WayThe person betting on the horse race is placing a bet for the horse to come in any of the top places of the race. The number of top places for any horse race is decided by the betting provider and is typically the first 3 places. However, for horse races where only a small number of horses are racing Each Way bets may be limited to the first two places or, if 5 or less horses are racing Each Way bets are not usually offered on the race at all. Similarly, for horse races where there are a large number of horses in the race such as the Grand National where 40 horses typically race, Each Way bets may be extended to the first four or even five places.
The actual bet forms two bets - one bet is placed on the horse to win the race and the full odds apply to this part of the bet. The other bet is placed on the horse to come in one of the top places and only a quarter of the odds apply this part of the bet. A £1 Each Way bet therefore costs £2 with £1 being placed on the horse to win, and £1 placed on the horse to get a top place.
The bet is lost if the horse does not come in any of the top places of the horse race. The Winnings
To Win BetWhere the horse wins the betting stake is multiplied by the odds to calculate the winnings and is paid out with the original betting stake. For example if a £2 bet is placed on horse with odds of 8-1 the £2 betting stake is multiplied by 8 and paid with the original £2 betting stake, ie a total of £18 is paid when the horse wins.
Each Way BetWhere the horse wins the race the first part of the betting stake is multiplied by the odds and paid with that original part of the betting stake, and the other half of the betting stake is multiplied by a quarter of the odds and paid with the original part of the betting stake. For example where a £1 Each Way bet (£2 betting stake) is placed on a horse at odds of 8-1 the original £1 betting stake for the horse to win is multiplied by 8 and returned with the original £1 betting stake paying out £9. The other £1 of the betting stake is then multiplied by a quarter of the odds (ie 2) with the original £1 betting stake paying out £3. Therefore if the horse wins the bet results in a total £12 win.
Where the horse comes in a top place in the horse race other than first place the original betting stake for the horse to win is lost and second part of the betting stake is multiplied by a quarter of the odds and paid with the original part of the betting stake. For example where a £1 Each Way bet (£2 betting stake) is placed on a horse at odds of 8-1 the original £1 betting stake for the horse to win is lost. The other £1 of the betting stake is then multiplied by a quarter of the odds (ie 2) and paid with the original £1 betting stake paying out £3 in total. Dog Racing
Prior to the formation of sled dog racing as a formal sport, sled dogs were bred and used by native peoples of the polar regions of the world in their everyday lives for survival in harsh climates. Two dogs commonly employed in sledding are Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies. These two breeds had quite different origins and uses. Alaskan Malamutes originated with a group of Eskimo people known as the Mahlemiut. The dogs of that time were very large freighting dogs, capable of pulling heavy weight. The Mahlemiut people inhabited the region in the upper part of the Anvik River in Alaska, and were spread out over a large area. The Mahlemiut people used these dogs for hauling food back to the villages. Also important in the background of sled dogs are the village dogs of Greenland. The gold rush in 1896 created a high demand for these dogs. On the other hand, Siberian Huskies originated with the Chuckchi People of Northeastern Siberia. These people had a Stone Age culture and used their dogs for a variety of things, like herding reindeer and pulling loads. These dogs were smaller an faster than their Mahlemiut counterparts. These dogs were exported to Alaska at around the time of the gold rush. Thus the gold rush played a very important part in the development of out modern day sled dog breeds. Sled dog racing began as a natural human competitive challenge, "My dogs are faster than your dogs." As a formal sport, sled dog racing appeared with the first All-Alaskan Sweepstakes race in 1908. Prior to this, Alaska's mushers had little opportunity for recreation and they used their teams primarily for work and transportation. Rules for the races were established, and they provided a good diversion to the difficult living conditions.
