After another four days of voting, we are one step closer to determining who has the best name in all of Minor League Baseball. Sixteen players were eliminated, so now just 16 remain. And what a 16 it is, a suite of spectacularly named ballplayers who are vying for the ultimate goal of being the first-ever recipient of MiLB.com's Wonderful Terrific Monds III award for the best name in the Minor Leagues.
(Wonderful Terrific Monds III played in the Minors from 1993-1999, during which time he earned a reputation as having one of the greatest monikers in the history of our national pastime).
Here's a bracket-by-bracket breakdown of the Round Two results in our wonderful and terrific contest, as well as a glimpse at significant matchups in the next round and beyond (for those new to Minors Moniker Madness, each bracket honors a classic name from Minor League History):
Icicle Reeder Bracket
•Seung Song (50.1%) over Sharlon Schoop (49.9%)•Bronson Sardinha (70%) over Tag Horner (30%)•Ari Kafka (66%) over Judd Songster (34%)•Arquimedes Caminero (52%) over Ludovicus Van Mil (48%)
A Closer Look: Seung Song's victory over Sharlon Schoop was determined by a mere two votes, a fitting result to a contest that pitted two very similar names.
Farmer Works Bracket
•Will Startup (71%) over Cirilo Cumberbatch (29%)•Henry Henry (66%) over Johnny Defendis (34%)•Gil Gil (61%) over Stephen King (39%)•Jorge Poo Tang (76%) over Rocky Cherry (24%)
A Closer Look: Stephen King's thorough defeat at the hands of Gil Gil spoke to a larger trend, as none of the "celebrity" names in the contest were able to advance past the second round (Ray Liotta and Brooks Dunn were also eliminated from the contest).
Natty Nattress Bracket
•Rowdy Hardy (62%) over Jung Bong (38%)•Winter Polo (65%) over Ray Liotta (35%)•Melquisedec Mesa (69%) over Kleininger Teran (31%)•Houston Summers (56%) over Michaelangel Trinidad (44%)
A Closer Look: No player suffered a more drastic reversal of fortune than Jung Bong, who captured just 38% of the vote after winning in a 66-34 landslide over Benito Beato in the first round.
Razor Shines Bracket
•Boof Bonser (59%) over Ricky Bambino (41%)•Boodle Clark (76%) over Brett Zamzow (24%)•Noochie Varner (58%) over Brooks Dunn (42%)•Dognnt Bolivar (58%) over Adam Parliament (42%)
A Closer Look: Boodle Clark captured a higher percentage of votes (76.2%, to be exact) than any other player in the second round.

*Opening Day
Key Matchups in the Next Round: It's high-level math vs. existential literature, as Euclides Archimedes Caminero takes on Ari Kafka...two decisive favorites (Rowdy Hardy and Winter Polo) go head-to-head in what is sure to be a very close matchup...another powerhouse match-up is occurring in the Razor Shines Bracket, as Boof (Bonser) meets Boodle (Clark).
Further Down the Road: If Gil Gil and Henry Henry both advance, they will then meet to determine the champion of the Farmer Works bracket...likewise, a battle of the seasons is brewing in the Natty Natress bracket, as Winter Polo could potentially go up against Houston Summers.
Voting for Round Three has now begun, and will continue until Monday morning. We are moving ever closer to determining the Wonderful Terrific Monds of 2007. Cast your votes today.
