LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!!!!
Task
Your task is to work with the members of your team to research one bracket of the NCAA Men's or Women's College Basketball Tournament. You and your partners will each assume a role as you focus on the teams, colleges, and cities that are represented in that bracket.
Process Your class will be divided into teams. Each team will consist of 4 members. Your team will be responsible for researching a specific bracket from the NCAA Men's or Women's College Basketball Tournament. Link to the Championship Tournament Brackets. Print a copy for you and your team. You and your teammates will focus on one of the following regionals, either Midwest, South, West, or East in the Men's Championship or Mideast, Midwest, East, or West in the Women's Championship. After reviewing the brackets you will choose 1 team to research. Each member of your team will complete activities from one of the perspectives listed below. Each team member should use the links listed in the Resources Section of this Web Quest as well as books, newspapers, and magazines from the LMC to complete the research.
Athletic Director: You are responsible for arranging team schedules and transportation to and from the tournament. You will need to make travel arrangements for your school's team and coaching staff. The information that you collect should be organized in a Microsoft Excel document. Travel to the venue and back. Itinerary: (What is the travel schedule?) Find airports or bus companies. Make a list of available flights and/or bus schedules. Hotel Accommodations in the venue city. Accommodations: (Where will the team stay?) Create a chart listing the hotel chains that service the city? Include information on room rates as well as anemities. (Does the hotel have a pool, restaurant, shuttle service?) Pep Club Advisor: You are the school's biggest fan. You know every bit of history about the school's mascot, team colors and fight song. You will need to make a poster displaying the following items: Mascot: Either draw or find a picture of the school mascot to enlarge. School Colors: Use these colors in a predominant way on your poster. How many times has your team made it to the NCAA Championships?
School Song: You have two options here. Find an audio copy of the school song to play for the class, or Find and print a copy of the fight song to display on your poster. Extra Credit: You would do anything for your team. If you (and a few teammates) learn and sing the song to the class you can earn 10 extra points on your project. College Recruiter: Your job is to find and recruit the best students and athletes to enroll in your school. You spend countless hours creating brochures and packets of information that you hand out to all prospective students. It is your job to use Microsoft Publisher to create an informational brochure which shows and tells all about your school. Academics: In what specific areas does your school specialize? Athletics: What sports are available to student athletes? Extracurricular Activities: What does the school offer to non athletes? What makes this school the best choice for new students? Social Director: While your school fans are in the venue city they would like to do a little site seeing. It is your job to search out interesting places for them to visit while they are not cheering on their team. You will need to create a 2- 3 day calendar of events using Microsoft Publisher. Be sure to begin by putting in the tournament schedule so that the fans don't miss any of their school's games. Entertainment: What fun activities are available in the venue city? Where can visitors go? Food: Are there any really good restaurants in the city that shouldn't be missed? Landmarks or cultural places of interest: Are there museums, theaters, or historical sites in the area?
