1. Missouri (11-1)
Nov 24th: The Tigers beat undefeated Kansas 36-28. This is Missouri's first number 1 ranking since 1969 and the Tigers win the Big 12 North. If they beat Oklahoma next week they will play either West Virginia or Ohio State for the national championship. QB Chase Daniel elevated his Heisman Trophy stock with a spectacular performance, going 40-49 for 361 yards and 3 TDs. Nov 17th: The Tigers crushed cross border rival Kansas State 49-32. WR/KR Jeremy Maclin continues to impress accumulating 252 total yards and 3 TDs. November 10th: WR Jeremy Macklin caught 2 TD passes and QB Chase Daniel threw for 352 yards and 3 TDs as the Tigers blasted Texas A&M 40-26. Nov 3rd: The Tigers beat a good Colorado team 55-10. QB Chase Daniel threw for 422 yards and 5 TDs. I just love the little speed Jeremy Maclin who caught 6 balls for 108 yards and 1 TD. Oct 28th: Defeated Iowa State 42-28. NFL Draft Prospect Tight End Martin Rucker was the leading receiver with 7 catches for 66 yards and 1 TD. Oct 20th: They just crushed a pass happy Texas Tech team. Keep an eye on freshman Jeremy Maclin. He is currently ranked 9th in the nation in all purpose yardage. He does everything, accumulating 209 yards rushing, 423 yards receiving, 208 on punt returns and 485 yards on kick returns. Oct 13th: The Tigers lost to a tough Oklahoma team 41-31. Tight end Chase Coffman will soon be playing in the NFL, in this game he caught 10 balls for 102 yards and speedster Jeremy Macklin had 85 all purpose yards and 2 TDs. The Tigers play an offensive juggernaut in Texas Tech on Oct 20th......Oct 5th: The Tigers are undefeated and have beaten some very solid teams in Illinois, Ole Miss and most recently destroying Nebraska 41-6. They have a solid quarterback in Chase Daniels who against Nebraska threw for 401 yards and 2 TDs. They also have the best pair of tight ends in the nation in Martin Rucker and Chase Coffman. Against Nebraska, Rucker recorded 9 catches for 109 yards and 1 TD.
2. West Virginia (10-1)
Nov 24th: The Mountaineers pounded UConn 66-21 and if they beat Pitt next week they should be playing Missouri for a national title. QB Pat White accumulated 168 yards and 3 TDs and freshman sensation Noel Devine ran for 118 yards. Nov 17th: West Virginia beat a very good Cincinnati team 28-23 and Pat White ran for 155 yards and 2 TDs. Nov 8th: West Virginia almost blew a 31-14 lead, they let a mediocre Louisville team come back on them, barely winning 31-38. Pat White ran for 147 yards. Nov 3rd: Did not play. Oct 28th: The Mountaineers demoralized a Rutgers team 31-3. RB Steve Slaton reminded everyone that he still has hopes for the Heisman Trophy by rushing for 3 TDs. Oct 20th: The Mountaineers crushed Mississippi State 38-13. QB Pat White is healthy once again, his first quarter 64 yard TD run broke the game open. Next week, they play against a rising Rutgers team. Oct 13th: Did not play. Oct 6th: The Mountaineers beat a hapless Syracuse team 55-14. FB Owen Schmitt scored two touchdowns. QB Pat White is still battling injuries. Sept 29th: QB Pat White sustained a bruised quad, left the game and the Mountaineers couldn't run on a stout South Florida team; West Virginia lost 24-19. Sept 22: The Mountaineers beat East Carolina 48-7, they have another weapon, WR Darius Reynard, who accumulated 112 combined yardage and 2 TDs. Sept: 13th: West Virginia ran all over a game Maryland squad 31-14. Steve Slaton is very good, but Noel Devin is great, Devine finished with 5 carries and 136 yards, he had an amazing 27.2 yards per carry average! He (Devine) is the most exciting running back I have seen this season. Sept 8th: West Virginia smashed Marshal 48-23 and Steve Slaton went for 146 yards and 2 TDs, fresh phenom Noel Devine had 5 carries for 76 yards and 2 TDs, that's a 15 yards per carry average folks....West Virginia crushed Western Michigan 62-24 in the season opener. QB Patrick White was efficient throwing for 192 yards and two TDs and RB Steve Slaton started his Heisman Trophy quest rushing for 109 yards and 3 TDs. Slaton's 58 yard scoring scamper shows he hasn't lost his speed. Internet legend true freshman running back Noel Devine got his first taste of college football carrying the ball 7 times for 44 yards and 1 TD.
3. Ohio State (11-1)
Nov 24th: The Buckeyes regular season is done, they are just hoping either West Virginia or Missouri will lose and then they could play for a national title. My prediction is Oklahoma will beat Missouri (again) and West Virginia will beat Pitt, setting up a West Virginia-Ohio State title game. Nov 17thth: Ohio State beat Michigan for the 4th consecutive time. It's not much of a "rivalry" when Michigan stinks so bad. Yes RB Chris Wells ran for 220 yards and 2 TDs, but the real star of the game was DE Vernon Gholston, who sacked and harassed the Michigan quarterbacks all day. Nov 10th: The buckeyes fell from the top ranking by losing to Illinois 28-21. They just couldn't handle the spread offense running attack and linebacker James Laurinaitis was ineffective. The Buckeyes had their 28 game regular season winning streak snapped and lost any hope of playing for the national title. However, they will play Michigan next week for the Big 10 crown. Nov 3rd: Beat a scrappy Wisconsin team 38-17. RB Chris Wells rushed for 168 yards and 3 TDs. Their two bookend offensive tackles don't get enough praise: Alex Boone (JR) and Kirk Barton. Oct 28th: Easily beat a very solid Penn State team on the road 37-17. QB Todd Boeckman continues to be one of the unsung, unknown heroes of the 2007 college football season. The Buckeyes are very balanced. Boeckman threw for 253 yards and 3 TDs and RB Chris Wells ran for 133 yards. Oct 20th: Played sloppy, but beat Michigan State 24-17. RB Chris Wells had a break out game though rushing for 221 yards and 1 TD. Oct 13th: The Buckeyes move into the top spot because everybody else is losing. They pounded a week Kent team 48-3. Oct 6th: The Buckeyes just keep on winning with an awesome defense, they shut down an explosive Purdue offense 23-7. Sept 29th: Ohio State keeps climbing up the rankings with a dominating 30-7 win over Minnesota. The Buckeye defense is as good as any in the nation and QB Boeckman is getting better with each successive start, Boeckman was 18-29 and 2 TDs. Sept 22nd: Ohio State continues to climb up the rankings, with Penn State's loss they look like the class of the Big 10. They crushed Northwestern 58-7 and Boeckman is getting better throwing for 4 TDs. Sept 15th: The Buckeyes beat a very good Washington team 33-14. RB Chris Wells continues to impress running for 135 yards and a TD. Sept 8th: The Buckeyes beat Akron 20-2. The new star for Ohio State is running back Chris Wells, who is a 230 pound power back with break away speed. He rushed 20 times for 143 yards with a 7.2 yards per carry average......QB Todd Boeckman, (6' 4" 235 lbs), in his first career start looked impressive going 17-23 and 225 yards with 2 TDs in the Buckeyes 2007 opener. The Buckeyes defeated the over matched Youngstown State Penguins 38-6. With Michigan's stunning collapse keep an eye on an improving Buckeye team to make some noise in the Big Ten.
4. Oklahoma (10-2)
Nov 24th: The Sooners crushed Oklahoma State 49-17 setting up the Big 12 title game next week with Missouri. If they win and West Virginia loses their is an outside chance they could play Ohio State for a national championship. If Sam Bradford wouldn't have suffered a concussion last week against Texas Tech then Oklahoma would be ranked number one now and not Missouri. Bradford set an NCAA freshman record throwing for 32 TDs for the season. RB Allen Patrick ran for a career best 202 yards. Nov 17th: Ouch, the Sooners lost and all but lost a chance for a national title by losing to Texas Tech 34-27. When QB Sam Bradford left the game in the first quarter the Sooners fell apart. Wow, redshirt freshman Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree is incredible, he caught 12 passes for 154 yards and 1 TD. This was Crabtree's 10th game this season with 100 receiving yards more. Nov. 10th: Freshman DeMarco Murray scored 4 TDs including a 91 yard kick return as the Sooners destroyed Baylor 52-21. The winner of the Big 12 will probably play either Oregon or LSU for the national championship. Oklahoma has already beaten Texas and Missouri and I think they can beat Kansas. No one is talking about Oklahoma but I think they are the best team in the nation. Nov 3rd: The Sooners smashed Texas A&M 42-14. Their sophomore tight end Jermaine Gresham was the star in this game catching 4 TD passes. Oct 28th: Did not play 20th: Did not look impressive, barely beating Iowa State 17-7. Oct 13th: I know this ranking is a bit lofty, but beating Texas and then Missouri (41-31) in back to back games is very impressive. Oct 6th: The Sooners won the Red River Shootout and beat a very talented Texas team 28-21. Junior WR Malcolm Kelly continues to look like a top NFL Draft pick, he caught 5 passes for 105 yards and 1 TD. Sept 29th: The Sooners lost in a shocking 27-24 upset to Colorado. The Sooners couldn't stop Colorado running back Hugh Charles, who ran for 110 yards and 1 TD. They could rise back in the top five next week if they beat Texas in the Red River Shoot out. Sept 21st: The Sooners blasted Tulsa on National TV. We all talk about WR Malcolm Kelly but look out, the top receiver for the Sooners might be JR Juaquin Iglesias. The Sooners have the best O-line in the nation, the left side alone combines for 690 pounds of beef! One of the top junior left tackles is Phil Loadholt (6' 7" 360 lbs). Sept 15th: The Sooners obliterated Utah State 54 to 3. Running back Allen Patrick is back in action, he finished with 8 carries and 114 yards, that's a 14.1 yards per carry average. The best offensive guard that I have seen in the nation this year is George (Duke) Robinson (6' 4" 330 lbs). Sept 8th: The Sooners destroyed Miami (Fl) 51-13, Bradford was excellent again throwing for 205 yards and 5 TDs and Kelly had 4 receptions for 102 yards and 3 TDs. Kelly finished with an amazing 25.5 yards per catch average.....This Oklahoma team is dangerous, it looks like they found a quarterback, and if so, they could compete for a national title. Oklahoma just embarrassed a not so "Mean Green" North Texas squad 79-10 in the season opener. New quarterback freshman Sam Bradford was impressive going a very efficient 21 for 23 with 363 yards and 3 TDs. He finished the game with a 91.30 completion percentage. Junior Wide Receiver Malcolm Kelly (6' 4" 217 lbs) will be an elite prospect for the 2008 or 2009 NFL Draft. He (Kelly) caught 4 passes for 118 yards and 2 TDs in this game. But freshman running back DeMarco Murray (6' 0" 192 lbs) was spectacular rushing for 5 touchdowns.
5. USC (9-2)Nov 22nd: After losing two games early in the season, USC has made a push up the ranking with a convincing 44-24 win over Arizona State. John David Booty is back and playing well, he threw for 375 yards and 4 TDs. If they beat UCLA next week they will win an unprecedented 6th straight PAC 10 title and will play in the Rose Bowl, however it is highly unlikely they will get to play for a national title. Nov 17th: Did not play Nov 10th: USC beat California 24-17 in the rain. RB Chauncey Washing ran for a career high 220 yards and 1 TD. "We've been wanting Chauncey to be the energy of the offense," USC coach Pete Carroll said. "The last couple weeks, he's been feeling it. You could just tell he was on fire, and there was no way we should take the ball out of his hands. Nov 3rd: John David Booty was back under center and he threw for 2 TDs as USC beat Oregon State 24-3. Oct 28th: A very disappointing loss to Oregon 24-17. QB Mark Sanchez in just his 3rd start completed 26 passes for 277 yards and 2 TDs, but his two interceptions just killed USC. How the mighty have fallen. Oct 2th: New quarterback Mark Sanchez crushed a pathetic Notre Dame team 38-0. Sanchez was 21-38 with 235 yards and 4 TDs. Oct 13th: USC beat Arizona 20-13. Booty was injured and QB Mark Sanchez got his first start, he was mediocre going 19-31 with 130 yards, 2 interceptions and 1 TD. They just haven't had a receiver step up, the tight end, Fred Davis was their leading receiver catching 6 passes for 63 yards and 1 TD. Oct 6th: Sorry USC fans you guys look way over rated, losing to a very mediocre Stanford team 23-24. QB John David Booty threw 4 interceptions. On a positive note, the USC start was TE Fred Davis who amassed 152 yards and 1 TD. Sept 29th: They barely beat a tough Washington team 27-24, but they did win and RB Stafon Johnson continues to impress with 14 carries for 122 yards and 1 TD. Sept 22: USC remained undefeated smashing Washington State. Booty completed 28 of 35 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns. TE Fred Davis had a breakout game, he had nine receptions for 124 yards. Sept 15: The Trojans traveled to Nebraska and spanked the Cornhuskers badly (49-31). Out of the eight running backs on their depth chart it looks like sophomore Stafon Johnson is rising to the top, he finished with 11 carries 144 yards and 1 TD.... USC easily beat the Idaho Vandals 38-10 in their home opener. This was the Trojans 34th consecutive victory at home dating to the 2001 season. The Trojans seem to reload every year at receiver and this year is no different. keep an eye on freshman receiver David Ausberry who is 6' 4" 225 pounds. Ausberry finished with 5 catches for 46 yards. John David Booty was efficient completing 21 of 32 for 206 yards and 3 TDs. He completed passes to 9 different receivers including running back CJ Gable, who caught a TD pass and added 68 yards rushing with an impressive 8.5 yards per carry average.
6. LSU (10-2)
Nov 23rd: I have been telling everyone LSU was over rated and it looks like I was right. They were knocked off their mighty perch after losing 50-48 in 3 overtimes to Darren McFadden and Arkansas. FB Jacob Hester ran for162 yards and 2 TDs, but the LSU defense couldn't stop McFadden. LSU will play Tennessee for the SEC title on December 1st. Nov 17th: They blasted Ole Miss 41-24, but their vaunted defense gave up 480 yards to Ole Miss's 97th ranked offense. Nov 10th: The Tigers are tough, but I don't think they have been as consistently tough as Oregon and Oklahoma. They beat Louisiana Tech 58-10. Freshman receiver Terrance Tolliver (6' 5" 194 lbs) had a break out game catching 3 passes for 119 yards and a TD. What a mess: Who should play the Big 12 champs Oregon or LSU? We need a playoff. Nov 3rd: They keep winning, but they aren't playing consistent football. Alabama outplayed them most of the game, but they pulled it out (41-34) in the end with a great TD catch and run from Early Doucet. Oct 28th: Did not play. Oct 20th. They once looked invincible, now they look average. The right side of their offensive line is very poor. They were behind Auburn most of the game only to pull it out in the end, winning in the final seconds 30-24. They Oct 13th: Lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Kentucky 43-37. WR Early Doucet has been injured and no one else has really stepped up. The right side of their offensive line is still suspect. Oct 6th: Well they are definitely #1 now after beating Florida 28-24, without star receiver Early Doucet, they turned to blue collar FB Jacob Hester who ran 26 times for 106 yards and 1 TD. Sept 29th: They beat Tulane 34-9, but it was a 10-9 score at half. I still love their defense, but the O-line is still struggling, they allowed six sacks in this game. Sept 22nd: LSU defeated a tough South Carolina team. Glen Dorsey and the LSU defense held SC running back Corey Boyd to 18 carries for 17 yards. Circle October 6th on your calender, LSU and Florida play, the winner will probably be playing for a BCS championship in January. Sept 15: The Tigers pulverized Middle Tennessee State 44-0. Ryan Perrilloux played quarterback and threw for 298 yards 1 INT and 3 TDs. Sept 8th: Wide receiver Brandon LaFell (6' 3" 194 lbs) had a coming out party catching 7 passes for 125 yards en route to LSU crushing Virginia Tech 48-7.....QB Matt Flynn and WR Early Doucet looks like an awesome combination for LSU. They hooked up numerous times and the LSU defense suffocated Mississippi State crushing them 45-0. However, the LSU offensive line struggled big time in the first half. Often injured guard Will Arnold played right guard in the first half, but was benched in the second in favor of Lyle Hitt. The Right tackle struggled all game and left guard Herman Johnson, who I am very high on, didn't really overpower anyone, folks Johnson is 6' 7" 355 pounds with very little body fat. He should be crushing people.
7. Georgia (10-2)
Nov 24th: Well they beat in-state rival Georgia Tech 31-17 and have now won 6 straight games, but unfortunately Tennessee beat Kentucky, so they won't have a chance to play LSU for the SEC title. Tennessee and Georgia are both 6-2 in the SEC, but Tennessee wins the tie breaker. Georgia RB Thomas Brown (5' 8" 200 lbs) ran for 139 yards and 1 TD. Nov 17th: They beat Kentucky 24-13. Knowshon Moreno ran for 124 yards. Georgia is the hottest team in college football right now. With an impressive 6-2 conference record it looks like they will play LSU in the SEC Championship game, but they still have to beat Georgia Tech. November 10th: They pulverized a solid Auburn team 45-20. The Dogs came out in their black jerseys and they played as good as they looked. Freshman RB Knowshon Moreno has recorded over 100 yards rushing in four straight games and he is over 1,000 yards for the season. Nov 3rd: The Dogs smashed Troy 44-34. Freshman Knowshon Moreno rushed for 196 yards and 3 TDs. Oct 28th: Georgia worked their way back into the top 20 after an impressive performance against Florida. The Bulldogs are leading the SEC East with a 4-2 in conference record. They crushed Tim Tebow and beat Florida 42-30. The sacked Tebow 6 times and held his running to -14 yards. Sophomore QB Matt Stafford is one of the Super Sophomores in the nation, nice size (6' 3" 2237 lbs), strong armed and accurate. For the season he has thrown 13 TDs and 5 interceptions, including his best game yet against Florida where he threw for 217 yards and 3 TDs with an impressive 61.1 completion percentage. Redshirt freshman Knowshon Moreno (5' 11" 207 lbs) rushed 33 times for 188 yards and 3 TDs.
8. Hawaii (11-0)
Nov 23rd: Hawaii continues to prove it's doubters wrong. Colt Brennan's offense line is pass blocking very well and his trio of receivers is just overwhelming. The Rainbows beat a very good Boise State team 39-27. Hawaii has now won 21 of its last 22 games and 12 straight. Colt Brennan broke Tye Detmer's TD record of 122 by throwing for 495 yards and 5 TDs. Brennan now has 126 TDs in his three years at Hawaii. Hawaii would be rated in the top three but their strength of schedule is among the easiest in Division 1. Nov 16th: Colt Brennen suffered a concussion and only played two snaps, but back up QB Tyler Graunke played good enough to beat Nevada 28-26, but only by a last second field goal. Cat quick receiver Devon Bess caught 12 passes for 137 yards. They play Boise State on Nov 23rd, that's going to be a tough game for the Rainbows, but if they can pull off the upset they will significantly rise in the polls. Nov 10th: Brennan tied the NCAA career mark of 121 touchdown passes as Hawaii remained undefeated by holding off Fresno State 37-30. Brennan was 28-of-39 for 396 yards and two touchdowns before he left in the fourth quarter with a concussion. Brennan has a great NFL caliber arm and deserves to be listed in Mock Drafts as a potential first round Draft pick. Nov 3rd: Did not play. Oct 28th: Hawaii pulverized New Mexico State 50-13. QB Colt Brennan jumped back into the Heisman race with 6 touchdown passes. WR Ryan Grice-Mullen continues to impress with 13 receptions for 195 yards and 3 TDs. Oct 20th: Did not play. Oct 12th: The Rainbows beat San Jose State 42-35. Oct 6th: The Rainbow Warriors beat a mediocre Utah State team 52-37. Colt Brennan re-injured his ankle and had to leave the game. Sept 29th: Hawaii blasted Idaho 48-20 and Brennan threw for 369 yards and 3 TDs, however his 5 interceptions will not help his quest for the Heisman. Sept 22nd: Colt Brennan sat out the game with a sprained ankle but the Rainbow Warriors still beat another patsy team (Char Southern) 66-10. The Rainbows are undefeated and don't really face any tough opponents until November 23rd against Boise State. Heisman Trophy Candidate Hawaii QB Colt Brennan leads the nation in passing with 420.7 yards per game. Brennan's 105 career TD passes are the 5th most in NCAA history.
9. Virginia Tech (10-2)
Nov 24th: The Hokies are red hot, they beat Virginia 33-21 and won the ACC Coastal. That win sets up a rematch with Boston College next week for the ACC Championship. RB Brandon Ore is starting to get untracked, he ran for 147 yards in the game. Nov 17th: The Hokies crushed Miami (Fl) 44-14. Brandon Ore rushed for 88 yards and 2 TDs. Nov 10th: Frank Beamer got his first career victory against Florida State as the Hokies (5-1 in the ACC) won 40-21. The game was tougher than the score indicated however. DE Chris Ellis had a 5 yard Interception Return for a touchdown. Nov 1st: Crushed a very good Georgia Tech team 27-3. Senior WR Josh Morgan (6' 1" 216 lbs) caught 6 passes for 103 yards and 1 TD. Oct 25th: They played Boston College tough for 3.5 quarters, but their late game defensive breakdown cost them the game, they ultimately lost 14-10. Oct 20th: Did not play. The signature game for the Hokies will be on Oct 25th when they play undefeated Boston College, which will be a national ESPN game. Oct 13th: Beat Duke 43-14. QB Tyrod Taylor was injured but Sean Glennon came in and performed admirably throwing for 258 yards and 2 TDs. WR Eddie Royal had a good game catching 6 passes for 90 yards and 1 TD. The loss of MLB Vince Hall for another four weeks due to a broken wrist will really hurt. Oct 6th: The Hokies are getting better and better, man handling Clemson 41-23. Victor Harris ran a kick back for 100 yards and a touchdown and QB Tyrod Taylor killed Clemson with his feet running for 118 yards. Sept 29th: The Hokies got another win, barely beating north Carolina 17-10. Senior speedster receiver Eddie Royal broke the game open with two carries for 60 yards. Royal reportedly has 4.29 speed. Sept 22nd: Virginia Tech destroyed a patsy (William and Mary) 44-3. Sept 15th: The Hokies beat Ohio University 28-7, Taylor was only so-so going 18-31 and 287 yards. Sept 8th: The Hokie offense looked inept getting blasted by LSU 48-7 and coach Frank Beamer plans to start redshirt freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor next week against Ohio....The Hokies looked sluggish and sloppy in their 2007 season opener barely defeating the East Carolina Pirates 17-7. They have one of the best running backs in the nation running the ball in junior Branden Ore, but he didn't do much in this game finishing with only 70 yards and a measly 3 yards per carry average. He carried the ball 23 times, but his longest carry was only nine yards. Regardless, I look for Ore to have a great season and enter the 2008 NFL Draft.
10. Florida (10-3)
Nov 24th: Florida destroyed in-state rival Florida State 45-12. Tim Tebow passed for 3 TDs and ran for 2 more giving him a total of 51 TDs for the season. Nov 17th: Florida destroyed Florida Atlantic 59-20. Tim Tebow continued to raise his stock in the Heisman Trophy race passing for 338 yards and 3 TDs. Nov 10th: Tim Tebow jumped back in the Heisman race with an amazing performance against faltering South Carolina State. He scored 7 TDs and accumulated 424 total yards en route to a 51-31 victory. Tebow has 42 total TDs running and passing, breaking Florida QB Danny Wuerffel's SEC record of 41 set in 1996. Nov 3rd: The Gators beat Vanderbilt 49-22. WR Percy Harvin is the first player in Florida history to record 100 yards both rushing and receiving. He finished with 113 yards rushing and 110 yards receiving and 2 TDs. Oct 28th: A beat up QB Tim Tebow had a terrible game and Florida lost to Georgia 42-30. Tebow seen his Heisman hopes shattered, he was held to -14 yards rushing and was sacked 6 times. Oct 20th: Won a wild shoot out against Kentucky 45-37. Tim Tebow was special once again throwing for 256 yards and rushing for 78 more, with a combined 5 touchdowns. Oct 13th: Did not play. Oct 6th: A two loss team ranked 4th? You bet, they lost at LSU, but had the #1 ranked team (LSU) on the ropes. They have been the only team to easily move the ball on the vaunted LSU defense. Florida Junior WR/TE Cornelius Ingram is a future NFL star. Sept 29th: Yet another upset, the Gators lost to a scrappy Auburn club 20-17. Sept 22nd: QB Tim Tebow and WR Percy Harvin were at it again, Tebow had 2 TDs rushing and 2 TDs passing and Harvin had 11 catches for 121 yards and 1 TD. Sept 15th: The Gators crushed a solid Tennessee team 59-20. Tim Tebow was spectacular throwing for 2 TDs and running for 2 more. Percy Harvin was on a tear once again finishing with 120 receiving yards and a 30 yards per catch average. Sept 8th: Smashed Troy 53-31. All purpose scatback Percy Harvin had 4 carries for 56 yards (14 yards per carry average) and an additional 3 receptions for 42 yards and a TD....Florida beat the Western Kentucky Hill Toppers 49-3 in the 2007 season opener. Sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow looked outstanding in the 2007 season opener throwing a nice deep ball, he completed 13 of 17 for 300 yards and 3 TDs. The next great young Gator receiver looks like Riley Cooper (6' 3" 218 lbs), he caught 4 passes for 122 yards and 2 TDs. Keep an eye on newcomer 6' 5" 284 pound defensive end Lawrence Marsh, he received a redshirt last year as a true freshman, but should explode into stardom this year. Must see game: Florida State at Florida on November 26th.
11. Kansas (11-1)
Nov 24th: Kansas was benefiting from a week schedule and they got exposed against Missouri losing 36-28. They drop in the rankings like a rock. Nov 17th: The Jayhawks over powered a solid Iowa State team 45-7. QB Todd Reesing threw for 253 yards and 4 TDs. November 10th: Kansas beat Oklahoma State 43-28. If QB Todd Reesing keeps winning he should be mentioned in the Heisman race. Nov 3rd: I thought this was a score from the Kansas basketball team when I seen that they beat Nebraska 76-39. Yes Kansas is good, but Nebraska has laid down and quit on their coach. QB Todd Reesing passed for 354 yards and 6 TDs. Oct 28th: Kansas beat Texas A&M 19-11. What an impressive blue collar team. The best two players are a full back and a cornerback. CB Aqib Talib was shut down city and full back Brandon McAnderson rushed for 183 yards and two TDs. That's an impressive full back folks. The Jayhawks remain undefeated and have their best record since 1901. Oct 20th: They keep winning the old fashion way with good blocking and tackling. They beat Colorado 19-14. Oct 13th: The Jayhawks beat Baylor 58-10. RB Jake Sharp had 18 carries for 110 yards and 1 TD and QB Todd Reesing had 2 TD passes. Oct 6th: I hesitate to add the Jayhawks to my top 20 because they haven't really beaten anyone except Kansas State, but they are undefeated and K-State is a solid team. Sophomore QB Todd Reesing threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns as the Jayhawks defeated their in- state rivals 30-24. The Jayhawks are 5-0 for just the third time in 39 years. Reesing has thrown for 1,119 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first four games. Super Star junior cornerback Aqib Talib, is being used on offense now, giving the Jayhawks a Deon Sanders type two-way weapon.
12. Illinois (8-3)
Nov 24th: Did not play. Their regular season is over they are just waiting to see who they play and in what bowl. Nov 17th: The Illini beat a good Northwestern team 41-22. The Juice is playing the QB position as good as anyone in the country. He accounted for 541 yards and 3 TDs. RB Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball for 124 yards and 2 TDs. Nov 10: The Illini stunned undefeated and top ranked Ohio State 28-21. Juice Williams did a masterful job of running the spread offense and threw 4 touchdown passes. He (Juice) ran for 70 yards mostly up the middle as the Illini O-line did a great job of neutralizing Ohio State middle linebacker James Laurinaitis. The Illini were the first team this year to rush for over 200 yards against Ohio State. They are 6-2 in the Big Ten and have also beaten Wisconsin and Penn State this year.
13. Tennessee (9-3)Nov 24th: The Volunteers have proven to be very resilient. This might be Phil Fulmer's best caching job ever. After losing two out of their first three games and losing three out of their first seven games, they have now won five straight games. They beat a tough Kentucky team (52-50) at Kentucky in 4 overtimes. QB Eric Ainge threw for 7 TDs, breaking a Tennessee single game record. LSU will play Tennessee for the SEC title on December 1st. Their 6-2 SEC record ties Georgia, but they win the tie breaker because they beat Georgia 35-14 on October 6th 2007.
14. Boston College (10-2)
Nov 24th: The Eagles beat the lowly Miami Hurricanes 28-14 and Matt Ryan threw for 369 yards and 3 TDs. That win sets up a ACC Championship game against Virginia Tech. Nov 17th: The Eagles pulled this tough game out in the end mainly through great defense. They beat a strong Clemson squad 20-17. QB Matt Ryan threw a 43 yard TD pass with less than 2 minutes remaining to seal the deal. Nov 10th: Ouch, BC lost two straight after they climbed to the #2 ranking in the country. They lost to Maryland 42-35. Matt Ryan threw for 421 yards and 3 TDs but he also threw 2 interceptions, that makes five interceptions in his last two games. However, with a win next week against Clemson they can still get a birth in the ACC Championship game. Nov 3rd: BC took a hard fall from being ranked #2. Florida State beat them 27-17 and Matt Ryan threw 3 interceptions. Oct 25th: A stunning 4th quarter comeback victory against a tough Virginia Tech team with 11 seconds remaining. Matt Ryan looks like the front runner for the Heisman Trophy. With that tough schedule, if they win out they deserve to play for a national Title. Oct 20th: Did not play. Oct 13th: Matt Ryan wasn't at his best, but he still beat a horrible Notre Dame team 27-14. This is the highest BC has been ranked in 27 years. Oct 6th: The Eagles are still undefeated and they have Matt Ryan, it's amazing after all that Ryan has done this year, he is still under rated. Ryan threw for 312 yards and 4 TDs in a 55-24 beat-down of Bowling Green. Sept 29th: BC beat Umass 24-14, RB Andre Callender ran for 115 yards and 2 TDs. Sept 22nd: Matt Ryan didn't have a great game but BC still beat Army 34-7. Sept 15th: Matt Ryan continues to wow NFL Scouts in a big way, BC beat a solid Georgia Tech team 24-10 and Ryan put up 435 yards and 1 TD. B. J. Raji is a massive 320 pound nose tackle with NFL potential, but he was suspended for the season due to academic difficulty. Sept 8th: The Eagles Pounded NC State 37-17. Quarterback Matt Ryan is far and away the best quarterback in the ACC, and maybe the best in the nation. New coach Jeff Jagodzinski gets his first win and Matt Ryan put NFL Scouts on notice by leading BC to a 38-28 win over a talented Wake Forest team in the 2007 season opener. Let us not forget about offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus (6' 6" 320 lbs), a potential first round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Top newcomer is freshman offensive guard John Elliot, he is 6' 4" 288 lbs. The unsung star of the defense is Cornerback DeJuan Tribble, maybe the best cover corner in the nation, he finished the season opener with three interceptions, those three three picks give Tribble 14 for his career.
15. Clemson (9-3)
Nov 24th: The Clemson Tigers are another tough, resilient ACC team. They beat South Carolina 23-21 and now wait to see what bowl game they will get. RB James Davis ran 23 times for 122 yards and JR WR Aaron Curry (6' 5" 184 lbs) caught 9 passes for 134 yards. For the season Curry has 1,045 yards and 11 TDs.
16. Oregon (8-3)
Nov 24th: The Ducks' offense has fallen apart after losing QB Dennis Dixon last week. They lost again, this time losing to UCLA 16-0. Nov 15th: Another top ranked team fell, this was a double disaster as not only did the Ducks lose to Arizona 34-24, but they lost QB Dennis Dixon for the season with a torn ACL. Nov 10th: Did not play, but they have looked very impressive and deserve to be ranked #1. Nov 3rd: The Ducks had their showcase game on national TV beating undefeated Arizona State 35-23. QB Dennis Dixon had 4 TD passes. Oct 28th: The Ducks defeated a struggling USC Trojan team 24-17. RB Jonathan Stewart is starting to get red hot, in his last two games he has rushed for 354 yards and 4 TDs including 103 yards and 2 TDs against a strong USC defense. Oct 20th: Blasted a solid Washington team 55-34. RB Jonathan Stewart had a break out game rushing for 251 yards and 2 TDs. October 13th: The Ducks blasted Washington State 53-7. Receiver Jaison Williams was spectacular catching 4 balls for 108 yards and 1 TD. That's a 27 yards per catch average. QB Dennis Dixon was also excellent going 21 for 28 with 287 yards and 3 TDs. Oct 6th: Did not play. Sept 29th: Oregon fell to a tough California team, 31-24, but they were in the game up until the end. The Ducks are fun to watch, offensively they are a juggernaut. Sept 22nd: Oregon beat Stanford 55-31. The Ducks has as much offensive firepower as anyone in the nation, RB Jonathan Stewart ran 19 times for 160 yards and 1 TD and WR/TE Jaison Williams caught 7 balls for 113 yards and 2 TD. Sept 15th: The Ducks squeaked by a Fresno State 23-17, RB Jonathan Stewart was a monster with 17 carries for 165 yards and 2 TDs. Sept 7th: Oregon spanked a hapless Michigan team 39-7. Junior Jaison Williams (6'5" 240 lbs) is one of the top rated wide receivers in the nation. Sept 1st: Oregon beat Houston 48-27. One of the better unknown offensive guards in the nation is 6' 6" 338 pound Geoff Schwartz.
17. Virginia (9-3)
Nov 24th: The Cavs lost to a red hot Virginia Tech team 33-21. Nov 17th: Did not play, the Cavs have a huge showdown with Virginia Tech coming up on Nov 24th, if they beat the Hokies they will play Boston College for the ACC Championship. Nov 10th: Chris Long was moved inside and played mostly right defensive tackle in this game, but his star still shined. The Cavaliers defense completely dominated the disgraced Miami Hurricanes (48-0) in the last game in the Orange Bowl. The game was over about midway in the second quarter when it was 31-0. Virginia is no joke, they have already beaten Georgia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest and now Miami.
18. Arizona State (9-2)
Nov 22nd: Suffered a devastating loss to USC at home 44-24. They have been over rated much of the season, their strength of schedule was not difficult. Nov 17th: Did not play. Nov 10th: The Sun Devils beat a tough UCLA team 24-20 in the Rose Bowl. RB Keegan Herring (5' 10" 188 lbs) ran for 116 yards, including a 71 yard TD run. November 3rd: The Sun Devils played pretty good , but went against an offensive buzz saw in Oregon. They lost their first game of the season 35-23. Oct 28th: The Sun Devils continued their impressive rise up the rankings with a very impressive victory over California 31-20. Even without star RB Ryan Torain, the Sun Devils (Dimitri Nance) rushed for 3 TDs, and 144 total yards. Next up, a huge showdown with 3rd ranked Oregon with the PAC Ten Championship on the line. Oct 20th: Did not play. October 13th: The Sun Devils pounded Washington 44-20. Junior RB Keegan Herring rushed 10 times for 119 yards and 1 TD. Oct 6th: They defeated Washington State 23-20. Star running back Ryan Torain has recorded 524 yards and 5 TDs so far, he is also averaging 104 yards per game. Keep an eye on junior receiver Michael Jones, he is 6' 4" 210 pounds and been very productive on the football field. Jones has 21 catches for 357 yards and 5 TDs so far in the season.
19. Texas (9-3)
Nov 23rd: How the mighty have fallen, Texas is just not that good this year, they lost to Texas A&M 38-30. Nov 17th: Did not play. Nov 10th: Normally Jamaal Charles waits for the 4th quarter for his heroics, but not today. He ran for an amazing 173 yards in the first half as he had to sit out the second half with a right ankle injury. Charles has accumulated 1,366 yards and 15 TDs for the season. But back to Texas, they outscored Texas Tech 59-43 in a shoot out. Nov 3rd: They almost lost yet again with another miracle 4th quarter comeback. If it wasn't for RB Jamaal Charles the Longhorns would have lost at least 2 more games this year. Charles is blazing fast and seems to get stronger in the 4th quarter. Texas beat Oklahoma State 38-35 with a field goal as time expired. Charles had two 4th quarter TD and finished with 180 rushing yards. Oct 28th: A junior running back that isn't getting much press for early entry into the NFL Draft is Jamaal Charles (6' 1" 200 lbs), man is he blazing fast. He rushed 33 times for 290 yards and 3 TDs in a much tighter than expected 28-25 victory over Nebraska. Oct 20th: The Longhorns beat Baylor 31-10. With Sweed out, WR Nate Jones continues to impress catching 6 passes for 72 yards and 1 TD. Oct 13th: The Horns smashed Iowa State 56-3. Colt McCoy had a bounce back game completing 23 of 30 passes for 298 yards and 4 TDs. Limas Sweed is out for the year, but senior receiver Nate Jones (6' 2" 202 lbs) stepped up with 7 catches for 125 yards and 1 TD. Oct 6th: Yes they have two losses, but they are still a solid team and deserve to be in the top 20. I am not a Longhorn fan, I just think are are talented enough to stay in the top 20. They barely lost to a great Oklahoma team 28- 21 in the Red River shoot-out. Sept 29th: The Longhorns got seriously spanked by a solid Kansas State team 41-21. Texas is not that bad, but if they lose next week to Oklahoma they will be taken out of my top 20. Sept 22nd: Texas destroyed a hapless Rice squad, good news for Longhorn fans, WR Limas Sweed is back in action. Sept 15th: Texas hasn't been impressive yet this season, Limas Sweed has been injured, but the lone bright spot is RB Jamaal Charles, who looks fast as lightening. Texas barely beat University of Central Florida (UCF) 35-32. UCF has an excellent cornerback in junior Joe Burnett, who is NFL bound. Sept 8th: Texas crushed a tough TCU team, Charles was impressive again rushing for 134 yards and a touchdown. Texas might be a little over-rated here. The offense looks good, but their weakness appears to be the defensive secondary...... Texas Struggled against a mediocre Arkansas State, winning 21 to 13 in their season opener. Limas Sweed looks excellent, he caught five passes from QB Colt McCoy for 93 yards and a TD and RB Jamaal Charles pounded the rock for 112 yards and another TD.
20. Boise State (10-2)
Nov 23rd: Lost the WAC title to Hawaii (39-27), they played tough, but Colt Brenan at Hawaii is a daunting task. Hawaii lucked out by getting their only tough game of the season at home. Nov 17th: The Broncos Completely lambasted Idaho 58-14. QB Taylor Tharp was 22 of 31 for 282 yards and 4 TDs. They will play undefeated Hawaii on November 22nd for the WAC Title. Boise State will probably be favored, but the game is at Hawaii and June Jones is are almost unbeatable in his tropical paradise. Nov 10th: Taylor Tharp completed 26 of 29 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns as Boise State crushed Utah State 52-0. Tharp is a super sleeper, the senior QB has a quick release and decent size at (6' 2" 210 lbs) and has accumulated 2,557 yards and 23 TDs for the season.
