The Bears won the subsequent playoff, 9-0. Due to a snowstorm and cold weather, the game was moved from Wrigley Field to an improvised 80-yard dirt field at Chicago Stadium, making it the first indoor title game as well.

HISTORY OF FOOTBALL: ARENA STYLEThe Arena Football League debuted in June of 1987 with four teams in Chicago, Denver, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. Currently there are 16 teams in the arena football league, divided into two conferences and four divisions.
The very first arena bowl was played in 1987 with Denver defeating hosting Pittsburgh 45-16. The Detroit Drive dominated the arena football scene for the next several seasons competing in the Arena Bowl Championship game every year from 1988-1993, winning four of six appearances.
