Casino History Before 1800's- online casino obviously not in existence yet but ancient European civilizations begin to game within their community. They gamble on things like the weather and try to predict random events. 1900's- the 1900's saw technological advancements that would eventually lead to the type of technology needed to establish the online casino. Where horse and buggy were slowly being replaced for cars, technicians were beginning to realize the potential of technological machinery and the invention of computer like systems. 1980's and beyond- the 1980's saw the first IBM PC and the first of computers as we know them today. We should not forget that there are evolutions happening to the computer on a daily basis and the end result of all these changed is still unknown. Technological advances and advanced computer simulacrum made the modern day online casino that players are used to seeing. The technological advances made the necessary machinery that would allow for people to game against each other and to game against the computer. The online casino became a commodity when the random number generator came fully into effect. The random number generator became the dealer of the online casino that would ensure that random numbers were being produced and that the player was experiencing the same level of fair gaming as was guaranteed to him/her in the land based casinos. It was in 1994 that the Antiguan government passed a law that allowed for the basing of the online casino to be in Antigua's borders. This was referred to as the Free Trade and Processing Zone and this is when many of the notorious names in the online casino world were birthed. In the United States, legal casinos were long operated only in Las Vegas and other locations in Nevada, where various forms of commercialized gambling were permitted. The economy of Las Vegas is almost entirely dependent on the large, luxurious casinos that have operated there since the late 1940s. Casino gambling was introduced in Atlantic City, N.J., in 1978, and from the 1980s casinos also began appearing on various American Indian reservations, which are not subject to state antigambling statutes. Other legal casinos are located on riverboats; in Deadwood, S.D.; and by special license in Puerto Rico. A general expansion of casino gambling was underway in the United States by the last decade of the 20th century. In South America, there are casinos in Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador. The casino at Havana, Cuba, was closed after the revolution in 1959. The casino typically accepts all bets made by its patrons within a limit established so that a patron cannot win more than the casino can afford to pay. Every game offered gives the casino a mathematical expectancy of winning, and it is unlikely that a casino might lose money on its games, even for one day. Because of this virtual assurance of gross profit, casinos regularly offer big bettors extravagant inducements in the form of free spectacular entertainment, transportation, and elegant living quarters. Even lesser bettors are offered reduced-fare transportation, hotel rooms, free drinks and cigarettes while gambling, and other inducements. Such promotional expenses may exceed profits and cause a net loss over the year. Of the games played regularly at casinos, roulette is found throughout the world, being a principal gambling game in France, where the casinos reduce their advantage to less than 1 percent to entice big bettors. In the America, roulette appeals more to small bettors, and the casinos take a larger percentage. Crap shooting attracts the big bettors in American casinos, most of which demand an advantage no greater than 1.4 percent, some only 1 percent or less. Slot machines and (from the 1980s) video poker machines are the economic mainstay of American casinos, the income resulting from high volume, rapid play at sums ranging from five cents to one dollar, and the ability to adjust machines for any desired profit.

Some sort of table or bet limits are required in poker to keep a person with the "deepest pockets" from "buying the game." Examples While any multi-round poker game can use big bets, the unlimited buy-in nature of casino style play is best suited for BB limits. Casinos can advertise the relatively low maximum wager of the BB as a way of attracting players, and players can join the table at any time. Casino style draw poker Big bets are used in draw poker during the final round of betting to weed out tentative players. In theory, only those committed to their hand after seeing their final cards will be motivated to wager twice as much as their previous bet. In practice, however, additional motivation for players to fold is usually needed in a single draw game such as: a half-pot limit, a pot limit, or a spread limit. No limit poker is only employed when table limits are imposed, thereby disallowing casino guests to join the table after play has started. Texas hold 'em In a $2/$4 Texas hold 'em game, the big bet would be $4, wagered in each bet of the last two cards. The $2 would be the small bet, wagered during all other bets of the game. Given that a small bet is generally half of a big bet and that a small blind is generally half of the small bet, the minimum BB in casino style holdem is four cents. On the other side of the scale, the largest required BB in regular play is that of $8000 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. At this table, professionals like Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Chau Giang, and Gus Hansen, along with wealthy tourists, are required to wager $8000 in each bet of each of the final two rounds of the game. Omaha hold 'em Big Bets are used in Omaha poker to allow buy-ins of players at any time. The American casino variant of Omaha, called Omaha Eight-or-Better has a greater odds of winning and therefore less motivation to fold with a tentative hand. For that reason Omaha Eight-or-Better is sometimes played in a pot limit betting structure instead of big bets. Casino style seven-card stud Big bets are used in seven-card stud, generally after the last upcard, to motivate tentative players who already have a lot of money in the pot to fold anyway. By the last upcard, seven-card stud players have wagered an ante and three rounds of betting. With that much money already in the pot, there is little motivation to drop out during the final two rounds of betting, especially when there is a possibility that another player may be bluffing. The effect of adding the requirement of a big bet to the final two rounds of seven-card stud betting is that the game becomes one more of skill than of luck.
